Congratulations to Chattanooga State's graduating Sophomore, Deanna Beaty who was selected as a 2003 NJCAA Division I Fast Pitch Softball All-American.

The Lady Tigers finished the 2003 Season ranked 16th in the nation.

Lady Tigers Lose Two in National Tournament
Despite leading early, Chattanooga State lost 10-3 to Seminole State in the opening game of the NJCAA Tournament and then lost 5-2 to Briarcliffe in the second game.  Against Briarcliffe, the Lady Tigers led 2-0 going into the 7th inning but  three errors led to a 5 run inning for Briarcliffe, sending the Lady Tigers home early.  This is third time that the Lady Tigers have left the National Tournament in two games.  Seminole State finished fourth and Briarcliffe finished third in the National Championship.  Despite a disappointing finish at nationals, the Lady Tigers set the single season homerun record with 56 homers in 61 games.


May 9, 2003

TEN in a row!
Chattanooga State won 3 games on Saturday to capture the Region VII Championship.  The Lady Tigers defeated Walters State 5-0 to win the losers bracket and face Vol State for the championship.  Gretchen Hackett pitched a two hitter in the first championship game for a 5-1 victory sending them to a second championship game.  Stasha Morton took the mound in the second game for an 8-3 victory.  Morton was the Region VII Tournament MVP.  The Lady Tigers will represent Region VII in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament next week in Clermont, Flordia.  This is the Lady Tiger's tenth straight Region VII Championship.

Leah Dobbs, Deanna Beaty, Jillyen Layne and Stasha Morton were named to the Region VII All Tournament Team.  Stasha Morton was named Region VII Tournament MVP.

Chattanooga State Defeats Walters but Falls to Vol State on Friday
The Lady Tigers won their morning game 4-1 against Walters State to move to the semi-final game on Friday evening against Vol State.  Chattanooga State and Walters were tied 1-1 going into the 7th inning when Chattanooga State rallied to score 3 to win the early game.  In the evening game against Vol State, the Lady Tigers lost what turned out to be a slugfest, 12-13 in the 7th inning.  The Lady Tigers must now win three on Saturday to capture the Region VII championship.

Lady Tigers Defeat Dyersburg State in Opening Day of Region VII Tournament
Stasha Morton (21-2) and Gretchen Hackett combined for a no-hitter in Chattanooga State's 8-0 win over Dyersburg State in their opening game of the Region VII Tournament. Ashleigh Bull hit her 12th homerun of the season, bringing the Lady Tiger homerun total to 53 for the season, tying the season high homerun record for a Lady Tiger team.  Chattanooga State (44-10) is scheduled to play Walters State at 10:00 AM Central on Friday.

Lady Tigers Take Two from Roane State
The Lady Tigers won a double header against Roane State at Lady Tiger Field on Monday.  In Game 1 (9-1), Stasha Morton (3-for-3) hit a game ending walk-off homerun in the fifth inning while Leah Dobbs (3-for-3) hit a grand slam homerun in the second game (16-3).  Deana Beaty was 5-for-6 on the afternoon with a triple, 2 doubles and 5 RBIs.  Heather Zachry was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs.  The Lady Tigers travel to Roane State on Tuesday for a double header to complete their four game TJCCAA East regular season series with the Lady Raiders.

Chattanooga State Sweeps Walters State
On Wednesday at Walters State, the Lady Tigers completed their regular season sweep of the 7th ranked Walters State Senators.  Stasha Morton, who had pitched a no-hitter against Walters State on Monday, won the first game 1-0.  Deanna Beaty squeezed in Jillyen Layne in the top of the ninth inning for the winning run.  In the second game, Ashleigh Bull hit a two run home run and Hollie Pritchett provided a solo home run to power the Lady Tigers to a 5-3 win.  Ashley Wilks was the winning pitcher, with Gretchen Hackett relieving in the 6th to earn the save.  The Lady Tigers have won 25 of their last 27 games and will be playing at home this weekend in the Lady Tiger Invitational.

Lady Tigers Win Central Alabama Tournament
Winning 5 straight games behind solid pitching and explosive offense, the Chattanooga State Lady Tigers brought home the Central Alabama Tournament championship.  Stasha Morton who pitched 3 victories for the Lady Tigers, was named tournament MVP.  Friday morning's pool play began with Chattanooga State defeating Central Alabama (5-4) and Gadsden State (8-0).  Double elimination started on Friday night with win over Jefferson State (2-1).  In the semi-final game, the Lady Tigers sent Wallace Community College to the losers bracket (6-1).  Wallace won the losers bracket to face Chattanooga State for the championship.  The Lady Tigers jumped to an early lead in the first inning and never looked back, scoring 13 runs to defeat Wallace 13-2.


April 2, 2003

Chattanooga State Wins Six Out of Last Seven
The Lady Tigers had double header wins  over Cleveland State (8-0, 8-5) and St. Catherine (9-1, 10-1) before splitting with Lee University at Lee University (10-11, 11-6) on April 1. 

The Lady Tigers travel to Alexander City this weekend to play in the Central Alabama tournament.

Chattanooga State and Motlow State Split
The Lady Tigers traveled to Tulahoma to take on Motlow State in a doubleheader.  Motlow State won the early game, 2-3, while the Lady Tigers took home the nightcap 8 - 5 in 9 innings.  Motlow State was leading going into the top of the 7th when Heather Zachry hit a solo homerun to take the game into tie-breaker innings.  Stasha Morton scored off a Leah Dobbs double to take the lead in the 8th, but Motlow once again tied the score again in the bottom of the inning.  In the 9th inning, Deanna Beaty and Ashleigh Bull each hit two run homeruns to put the Lady Tigers up by 4.  Motlow State scored one in the bottom of the 9th, making the final total 8-5.  The Lady Tigers take on Cleveland State at home on Friday at 5:00.


March 25, 2003

The Lady Tigers Win Two
in Conference Debut
In Chattanooga State's first conference games of the 2003 season, the Lady Tigers, scored a total of 32 runs behind 28 hits in a double header against Hiwassee College.  Jenny Walker was 6-for-7 on the day with 9 RBIs.  Game 1: 16-1, Game 2: 16-0.  The Lady Tigers take on Motlow State on Thursday in Tullahoma.

The Chattanooga State Lady Tigers salute Sergeant Larry Bull of the The First of the 181st Field Artillery Unit as his unit leaves for Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  Sergeant Bull is the father of outfielder / catcher Ashleigh Bull.  The team's thoughts and prayers go with you.

Lady Tigers Take Third in the Larry Paulk Invitational

In Game 1 of pool play for the Larry Paulk Invitational Tournament in Niceville, Florida, Chattanooga State faced Manatee Community College.  Allison Thomas pitched the complete game 5-0 win for the Lady Tigers.  Deanna Beaty was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, and Hollie Pritchett was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. 

In the second game of the day, the Lady Tigers defeated Alvin Community College 9-4 behind combined pitching by Stasha Morton and Ashley Wilks.  Morton allowed one hit in three innings worked before being relieved by Wilks.  Jenny Walker was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs and Deanna Beaty and Hollie Pritchett were each 2-for-4 with a double. 

The final game of pool play matched Chattanooga State once again with Gulf Coast Community College.  Stasha Morton went the distance on the mound in the 2-1 win for the Lady Tigers.  Chattanooga State scored one in the first but Gulf Coast answered with 1 in the third.  Going into the 7th inning with the score tied 1-1, Jamie Reed laid down a surprise bunt hit, and Jessica Hall drove her in for the winning run.  Ashleigh Bull was 3-for-4, Jenny Walker was 2-for-4 and Jamie Reed was 2-for-3.

Single elimination opened with the Lady Tigers defeating Southern Union College 5-4.  Ashleigh Bull doubled to score Deanna Beaty in top the third, but Southern Union answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the third.  The Lady Tigers added 1 in the fifth after Jamie Reed reached on a bunt single and Ashleigh Bull drove her home.  In the 6th, Stasha Morton walked and was driven in with a single by Leah Dobbs.  Ashley Ward reached on a hit followed by a double by Deanna Beaty, driving in 2 runs.  Beaty was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs and Leah Dobbs was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Allison Thomas and Ashley Ward combined for the win.   

The win against Southern Union moved Chattanooga State forward in the bracket to face Gulf Coast Community College.  Stasha Morton took the mound in the 1-2 loss.  Morton scored in 4th on a Hollie Pritchett double.  Jenny Walker was 2-for-3 in the game.

The Lady Tigers took third in the tournament.

Deanna Beaty and Jenny Walker were 8-for-18 in the tournament.  Beaty had 4 doubles and 4 RBIs and Walker had a double and 4 RBIs.

Lady Tigers Take Two from Tallahassee Community College

In the first game of the doubleheader, Chattanooga State beat the Tallahassee Community College Eagles in Tallahassee 5-2.  Complete game winning pitcher was Stasha Morton.  In the second game, Chattanooga State had 13 hits resulting in 9 runs.  Final score:  9-5.  Winning pitcher was Allison Thomas.  Jessica Hall had 5 RBIs on the day.

Lady Tigers Drop Two to Gulf Coast Community College
In their first competition in almost a month due to rain, the Lady Tigers took the field in Panama City, Florida against 7th ranked Gulf Coast Community College.  In the first game, Leah Dobbs and Jenny Walker each had hits in the 0-5 loss.  In the nightcap, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Lady Commodores answered with 2 in the second and then broke it open with 6 in the 4th.  They added an insurance run in the 6th.  In the top of the 7th, the Lady Tigers rallied for 5 runs behind a walk by Jenny Walker, and hits by Stacy McCowan, Jessica Hall and a 3 run homer by Deanna Beaty.  Final score:  7-9.  Jessica Hall was 3-for-3 in the contest.

On March 6, the Lady Tigers will travel to Tallahassee for a doubleheader against Tallahassee Community College. 


In the 2003 NJCAA Division I Fast Pitch Softball PreSeason Poll, the Chattanooga State Lady Tigers were ranked 14th in the Nation.  The Lady Tigers closed last season with a fifth place finish at the National Tournament.  Gulf Coast CC was ranked 7th.  The Lady Tigers split with Gulf Coast in early February and will be facing them again this coming week during their upcoming trip to the Okaloosa-Walton Tournament scheduled for March 7 and 8.

Offense Dominates Lady Tiger / Old Timers scrimmage.
The Lady Tigers scrimmaged the Old Timers Team featuring a group of all-star men's fastpitch players.  The Old Timer All-Stars won the scrimmage, 18 - 11.
