Lady Tigers Win 11 Straight
Region VII / TJCCAA Championship Titles

The Lady Tigers outscored their competition 24 to 2 in 4 games to win their 11th straight Region VII / TJCCAA Championship.  With 3 straight victories, Dyersburg State (8-0), Motlow State (4-0), Jackson State (4-2), Chattanooga State remained in the winners bracket for the championship game on Thursday against Motlow State. With Ashley Wilks on the mound, the Lady Tigers earned the 5 inning victory, 8-0.  Christine Pierce closed the game.  Chattanooga State members of the Region Tournament Team are Christine Pierce, Ashleigh Bull, Katie Rockwell, and Cara Stiles.  Ashleigh Bull was chosen as the Tournament MVP.  The tournament victory qualifies the Lady Tigers, currently ranked #5 nationally, for the National Tournament to be held May 20-22 in Clearwater, Florida.

Lady Tigers Sweep Lady Bucs in Doubleheader
At home on Good Friday, the Lady Tigers used their combination of pitching, power and speed to defeat Motlow State 4-1 in the early game and 6-0 in the second.  The Lady Tigers are now 44-2.

Chattanooga State Ranked #4 in the Nation
Returning home after winning the Central Alabama Tournament, sweeping it's competition and allowing only 2 runs scored against them throughout the tournament, Chattanooga State returned home to defeat Cleveland State 8-1 and 4-1.  As the Lady Tigers continue to play well behind pitchers, Stasha Morton (#11 in K), Christine Pierce (#12 in ERA, #6 in K) and Ashley Wilks (#2 in ERA), they also continue to pound out runs with Stasha Morton (#1 in HR, #2 in RBIs), Gina Sterchi (#8 in HR, #25 in RBIs), Katie Rockwell (#11 in HR, #21 in RBIs), Ashleigh Bull (#12 in HR, #6 in RBIs) providing power and Cara Stiles (#3 in Stolen Bases) and Gina Sterchi (#11 in Stolen Bases) providing speed on the bases.

Lady Tigers Take Two From Young Harris
After double header victories over Hiawassee College on Tuesday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Georgia on Thursday for a double header against Young Harris, a team also receiving votes in this week's NJCAA Poll.  In game one, Young Harris and Chattanooga State were locked in a 0-0 tie with Young Harris pitcher Stacie Oakley pitching perfect until the Lady Tigers came to bat in the seventh inning.  Gina Sterchi led off with a double, followed by speedster Cara Stiles laying down a bunt single and stealing second.  A wild pitch brought Sterchi home, and Ashleigh Bull was given an intentional pass.  Bull stole second, with Stiles scoring as Young Harris attempted to throw Bull out.  Stasha Morton (12-0) got the 2-0 win with 6K and 2 hits.  In the nightcap, Christine Pierce (12-2) took the mound hurling a 4 hit, 6K, 4-0 victory.  Gina Sterchi had 3 walks and 2 runs scored with Ashleigh Bull, Stasha Morton, Katie Rockwell and Sherry Hicks each producing RBIs.  On Saturday, the Lady Tigers (31-2) will play Georgia Perimeter at home starting at 1:00.

Chattanooga State Ranked #5 in NJCAA Poll
In the NJCAA Top 25 Poll released on 3/24/2004, the Chattanooga State Lady Tigers were ranked #5 in the nation.  The Lady Tigers just completed a complete sweep homestand with victories over Lee University, Kellogg Community College, Columbia State, Cleveland State, Roane State and Volunteer State, outscoring their competition 115 to 8. 

The Lady Tigers Winning at Home
The Lady Tigers continued playing good ball the way they did on their road trip to Florida, beating Kellogg Community College in a double header on Saturday, 20-0 in game one and 9-0 in game two.  On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers met Columbia State in a double header winning the first game 9-1 and the second 8-0.  The Lady Tigers are now 21-2.

Chattanooga State Wins Home Openers Against Lee University
The Lady Tigers won their home debut games against Lee University.  Stasha Morton got the win and the first game and Christine Pierce pitched a 7 inning no-hitter in the second game, striking out 7.

Lady Tigers Defeat Columbia State But Fall to Gulf Coast in Larry Paulk Classic
Okaloosa-Walton:  Sherry Hicks was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs in the early game on Saturday against Columbia State.  Stasha Morton and Lindsey Thomas each had 2 RBIs in the 9-0 win.  Ashley Wilks (3-0) got the win with 4Ks.  In the afternoon game, the Lady Tigers again met Gulf Coast Community College.  Gulf Coast opened the scoring with 2 runs in the third on a hit and an error, and the Lady Tigers answered in the 5th with 2 runs with Sterchi and Stiles scoring on an Ashleigh Bull 2RBI single to left field.  Gulf Coast broke the deadlock in the 6th with a questionable foul ball call resulting in 3 runs.  Final score: 2-5.  The Lady Tigers are now 15-2 and will open at home on Friday, March 12 against Lee University.

Chattanooga State Opens Larry Paulk Classic
With 3 Wins
Okaloosa-Walton:  In 3 games, Gina Sterchi went 7-for-10 with 2 home runs, a triple and a double to lead the way in the Lady Tigers three victories in the Larry Paulk Classic in Okaloosa-Walton, Florida.  Christine Pierce took the mound against Volunteer State, giving up only one hit while striking out 10.  Ashleigh Bull was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Katie Rockwell was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs in the 9-1 win.  Cara Stiles and Lindsey Thomas each went 2-for-3 against Alvin in the 6-0 win.  Stasha Morton moved to 6-0 on the season allowing 4 hits in the 7-1 win.  The Lady Tigers defeated Southern Union 4-0 with Ashley Wilks on the mound.  Wilks gave up 2 hits while striking out 8, and Stasha Morton and Stacy McCowan each homered.  The Lady Tigers are now 14-1.

Lady Tigers Win 5 Out of 6 in Panama City
On Friday Chattanooga State faced Young Harris and Chipola in the opening round of the Gulf Coast Classic in Panama City, Florida.  Stasha Morton got the 5 hit 5- 2 win against Young Harris, while the team lost 3-6 to Chipola.  On Saturday, Morton pitched a 5 inning one-hitter to defeat Georgia Perimeter 9-0.  In the late game, Ashley Wilks and Christine Pierce combined for a 6 inning no hitter over Enterprise.  Wilks and Pierce had 11 strike-outs in the game.  On Sunday, the Lady Tigers took a double header from 15th ranked Gulf Coast Community College, 5-4 and 2-1.  The Lady Tigers are now 11-1 on the season.   

Chattanooga State Takes Two From Columbia State
In Columbia, Tennessee, Game One:  Stasha Morton took the mound, pitching three innings with 3K's and 2 hits.  In the first inning, Cara Stiles and Maranda Mounce were doubled home by Stasha Morton.  Then in the 3rd inning, Mounce got on with a hit, and Morton followed up with another RBI double.  Ashleigh Bull followed with a 2 run home run.  In the fourth inning, Allison Thomas came on to pitch.  In the fifth, Cara Stiles singled, followed by an Ashleigh Bull walk and an RBI single up the middle by Katie Rockwell.  Sherry Hicks doubled with 2 RBIs.  Lindsey Thomas doubled in the sixth, followed by a single by Mounce and a 3 run homer by Bull.  Final score:  11-2.  Thomas had one K with 3 hits and 2 unearned runs. 

In the nightcap, Christine Pierce was the starting pitcher.  Columbia State scored in the first on 2 hits and an error, but the Lady Tigers answered with 6 runs in the top of the second.  With two outs, Hollie Pritchett walked, Katie McCormick doubled, Emily Broyles then singled driving in both Pritchett and McCormick.  Mounce singled and Cara Stiles walked.  With base loaded, Stasha Morton brought everyone home with a grand slam home run.  Ashley Wilks came in in relief in the fourth inning.  In the seventh Stasha Morton topped off the scoring with a solo homerun. Pierce had 5 Ks while giving up 4 hits.  Wilks struck out 6 allowing only one hit in 4 innings worked.  Morton had 8 RBIs on the day and Ashleigh Bull drove home 5.

Lady Tigers Win Two In Spartanburg
The Lady Tigers traveled to South Carolina on Friday, Feb. 20 to play Spartanburg Methodist in a double header.  Stasha Morton pitched the opener with 10K's and allowed only 1 hit in the 9-1 5 inning win.  Christine Pierce took the mound in game 2 giving up only 2 hits while striking out 8 in a second 9-1 5 inning win.  The team had 29 hits during the two games.  With the victory in Game Two, the Lady Tigers Head Coach Beth Keylon-Randolph reached the 100 win mark with an overall record of 100-24.  Coach Keylon-Randolph is beginning her third year as head coach of the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers had defeated North Georgia College in a make-up double-header on Thursday with a 7-6 win in the first game and a 5-2 win in the nightcap.  The Lady Tigers are now 4-0 on the season.

Chattanooga State Ranked 7th in the
NJCAA's Division I Pre-Season Poll

With their highest pre-season ranking in the past four years, the Chattanooga State Lady Tigers will open the 2004 season with a 7th place NJCAA ranking.  Chattanooga State was the only Region VII school listed in the top 25, while Motlow State and Volunteer State were listed among the also receiving votes schools. The Lady Tigers were to have opened their season this past week with a double-header against North Georgia College, however inclement weather necessitated the postponement of the games until more favorable weather.  The next scheduled game is for February 20 in Spartanburg, SC against Spartanburg Methodist.
