For the first time ever, Chattanooga State has placed three players on the NJCAA 1st Team All-American squad. National Tournament Final Day ... Same Song Different Verse posted May 17, 2008 Chattanooga State (59-9) completed
the 2008 season Santa Fe scored two runs in the third and four more in the fifth. Judgement day continued for the Tigers as the three-man crew of umpires continued struggling with angles and positioning leading to five critical calls once again going against Tiger softball. Not withstanding, Beth Keylon-Randolph's Tigers battled to the end scoring one run in the seventh only to see the rally snuffed out as Meagan Masingale was called out at first base after clearly beating the throw by a step. Coach Randolph proclaimed the season a huge success; "I couldn't be more proud of my girls. They fought the other team and they even tried to fight the uncontrollables. Their spirit was never broken and they made me proud. This team deserved to make history and they did. They finished third at the national tournament, the highest ever in Chattanooga State's history. Chattanooga State can be proud." National Tournament Day 2 ... Judgement Puts Blemish on Perfect Record posted May 16, 2008 At 8:00 pm, the Tigers went up
against Wallace Hanceville to decide who would move to the Championship
game. The two undefeated teams batted but the Tigers came up short in a
4-3 loss. Hanceville jumped to a 1-0 lead in the second. The Tigers answered the score in the fifth on a two out single by Casey Saunders plating Britni Pearce who had led off the inning with a single. Krista Goodlet doubled home Meagan Qualls who had walked and Megann Sallinger who had singled giving Chatt State a sixth inning 3-1 lead. Hanceville answered in the sixth with one run and won the game in the seventh scoring two for the final 4-3 win The Tigers eleven
hit attack was minimized on four different occasions by umpire judgement
calls that went against them. The final nail in the coffin came in
the bottom of the seventh when a Hanceville batter baserunner slid into
first base arriving well after the ball was caught and was called safe,
keeping the game winning rally alive. The loss put the Tigers in a position needing to win three games for the National Championship. The ladies of Chattanooga State will have to wait to see who their opponent will be at 12 noon tomorrow. They will play the winner of #1 Santa Fe and San Jacinto with the winner of that game moving into the championship game to face Wallace.

off the bat of Meagan Masingale. Iowa Western The Tigers answered in the bottom half of the inning when Megann Sallinger led off with home run to dead center. Later in the inning Iowa Western errors led to another Chatt State run making the final score 4-2. Masingale had three hits, while Britni Pearce and Amber Janux had two hits each. The win set the Tigers up for a winner's bracket final vs. Wallace Hanceville. National Tournament Day 1 ... 2 Wins posted May 15, 2008 Chattanooga State softball began its run for a National Title with two wins; 8-0 vs. South Georgia and 3-1 vs. Butler Community College. eight while giving up two hits in the six inning run rule game vs. South
Georgia. In the second inning, the Tigers broke loose for two runs. Meagan Qualls lead off with a single to left field followed by a Morgan Qualls bunt single putting runners on first and second. With two outs, Britni Pearce drove in Morgan Qualls with a bunt single and Amber Janus knocked in Megann Sallinger who had reached on a fielders choice. The Tigers finished the game by scoring a total of six runs in the fourth and sixth. On the game, Meagan Masingale had two hits, while Janus and Saunders each had three hits in the twelve hit attack. In their second game of the day, the Tigers plated a run in the bottom of the first after two where out when Casey Saunders , who had reacehed on a fielders choice, moved to second on an error by the second baseman and scored when Meagan Qualls lined a single to right field. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the third behind a one out Masingale single to center followed by a run scoring single to right by Saunders. Butler answered with a homerun in the top of the fifth cutting the Tiger lead in half. Once again, Saunders answered the challenge by leading off in the sixth with a single to right. Jessica Duncan entered as a pinch runner and was sacrificed to second by Meagan Qualls. Morgan Qualls followed with an RBI single up the middle giving the Tigers the final margin of victory. Brittany Fox struck out four and gave up three hits in the complete game victory. The Tigers play Iowa Western Community College at 1:00 pm tomorrow.

saving the game with a clutch seventh inning pitching performance. The Tigers started the scoring when Meagan Masingale led off the game with an infield single, stole second and was singled home by a Casey Saunders single to left field. After Vol State tied the score in the second, Chattanooga State answered in the fourth when Meagan Qualls laced a single to left and two outs later scored when Megann Sallinger lined a double to deep center. Saunders started the game winning rally in the sixth with a single to deep short. Pinch runner Jessica Duncan stole second and was plated by Morgan Qualls who doubled down the left field line. In the top of the seventh a Vol State leadoff double brought in Alvarez who induced the next three outs to give the Tigers their 15th Championship in-a-row. Defensive gems that assured Chattanooga State of another national tournament title run included Britni Pearce throwing out a runner at first from right field to negate a run and an Amber Janus diving stop of a ball up the middle to force a runner out at second. Saunders dove into the hole at second and while layed out on the ground back hand flipped to first for the out. In the seventh, Meagan Qualls fielded a bunt after the leadoff batter doubled and teamed with Janus to force the runner out who was attempting to move to third base. The Tigers open up the 2008 National Tournament in Plant City, Florida next week.
Tigers Reach Championship Game posted May 5, 2008 In the semi-finals of the Region
VII Tournament, the Tigers outlasted Columbia State 3-2 behind the
stellar pitching of Brittany Fox, who won her 27th game of the season. In the first, Kaiti Kelley walked, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Kelley was awarded home on an illegal pitch giving the Tigers the first run of the game. Morgan Qualls led off the fourth inning with a her eleventh home run of the year. Megann Sallinger followed with a single to left and two outs later was driven home by an Amber Janus double down the left field line. Columbia scored two in the sixth for their only runs of the game. On the season, the Tigers are 55-7 as they head into the Region VII Championship game on Tuesday. Chattanooga State Beats Vol in Quarterfinals posted May 5, 2008 Courtney Alvarez pitched Tiger softball to a 3-0 shutout over Volunteer State in teh quarter finals of the TJCCAA Region VII Tournament. In the first inning, Casey Saunders singled home Meagan Masingale who had led off the game with a single to shortstop and then was sacrificed to second by Kaiti Kelley. In the fourth inning, Saunders led off with a walk and Meagan Qualls followed with her ninth home run over the left field fence giving the Tigers all the runs they would need. On the day Alvarez struck out six while giving up three hits in the Tigers 54th win of the season.

ten hits in beating cross town rival Cleveland State 5-3 in round two of
the Region VII Softball Tournament. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the third, the Tigers bounced back to score five in the bottom half of the inning highlighted by a two-run homer off the bat of Morgan Qualls. Kaiti Kelley led off the inning with a sharp single up the middle and was promplty sacrificed to second by Amber Janus. Meagan Masingale followed with an RBI single to center and scored on a Casey Saunder's double off the left field fence. Saunders was singled home by Meagan Qualls setting the stage for Morgan Qualls' home run. Brittany Fox took the win with a stellar three-inning, four strike out, no hit save performance by Courtney Alvarez. Chattanooga State next faces Volunteer State in round three on Monday at 10:00am cst. Chattanooga State Softball Perfect in TJCCAA Regular Season posted May 2, 2008 Tiger softball (52-7, 20-0) completed the regular
season schedule with an 8-1 victory over Jackson State. The rain
halted game continued from March 29, was started in the second inning
with the score tied 1-1 and Kim Patterson on first base. Chattanooga State began the onslaught of scoring in the third as Britni Pearce bunted her way to first base and went to third on a two-base throwing error. Casey Saunders laced a single up the middle driving in her first of two runs in the game, giving the Tigers the 2-1 lead. The Tigers pushed across another run in the fourth when Kaiti Kelley singled to shortstop, stole second and scored on a single to right by Meagan Masingale. In the sixth, Krista Goodlet led off with a double as the Tigers exploded for five final runs in the 52nd win of the season. Amber Janus singled to short followed by another Masingale single. Hannah Johnson pinch hit driving in Goodlet and Janus. Britni Pearce re-entered to run for Johnson and was driven in by Saunders. Meagan Qualls scored on a throwing error after hammering a 2-2 count pitch to the right field fence for a stand up triple that drove home Saunders. Courtney Alvarez gave up two hits and struck out twelve in picking up her 23rd win of the season. The Tigers move into the Region VII Tournament as the number one seed. First game of the tournament will be Saturday, May 3, at 6:00pm cst in Columbia, TN. The Tigers wills face the winner of Cleveland State and Southwest.

Saunders continued her clutch hitting by driving home Masingale in the first inning with a single to left field. Masingale had been hit by a pitch and stole second to lead off game two. In the 3-0 win, the Tigers scored their second run of the game when Masingale doubled home Kelley who had singled to short and stole second base. After two where out in the sixth, Morgan Qualls singled to left, Sallinger was hit by a pitch and Kim Patterson walked setting the stage for an RBI walk from Kelley. Courtney Alvarez won her 22rd game of the season pitching six innings, striking out six and allowing six hits. Jessica Duncan pitched a perfect seventh inning to give the Tigers a 51-7 overall record and a 19-0 TJCCAA Conference record.

2008 pitching prowess by shutting out Cleveland State 12-0 and 3-0 on
Tuesday, April 22. A 13-hit Tiger attack gave Fox her 24th win of the season. Meagan Masingale had three hits and drove in four runs while Morgan Qualls hit a towering 3-run homer over the centerfield fence. Qualls matched Masingale with four RBI’s. Shortstop Amber Janus was 2-for-3 and catcher Krista Goodlet had a key two out RBI single in the 4th. On the game, Fox had 7 strikeouts while giving up one hit. Casey Saunders started game two with a two out homerun to left field in the first; giving Alvarez all the runs she needed in winning her 21st game of the season. In the sixth Megann Sallinger doubled home Morgan Qualls with a line drive double to the center field fence. Meagan Qualls drove in the final run for Chattanooga State in the 7th inning with a double to left center that scored Masingale, who had reached on a single. Janus contributed two of the nine Chattanooga State hits. Tiger softball concludes conference play with a trip Morristown, TN, to play the Walters State Lady Senators on Thursday April 24.
Alvarez No-Hits Southwest as #2 Chattanooga State Wins Three More posted April 19, 2008 On Saturday Chattanooga State (47-7, 15-0), started
the day by finishing off Dyersburg State 14-1 in a five inning game.

Five hours later, the Tigers started their game in Memphis versus Southwest Community College. In the first game, Brittany Fox pitched Chattanooga State to a 2-0 win notching her 23rd win of the season. The Tigers scored all the runs they needed in the fourth inning. Meagan Qualls walked and was advanced to second on an illegal pitch by the Saluki’s starting pitcher. Kim Patterson was also walked setting the stage for Megann Sallinger who delivered a single to right field scoring Qualls. Patterson advanced to third on the throw and scored when Krista Goodlet singled to left field. Alvarez continued her mastery in game two by no-hitting Southwest 8-0 and striking out six hitters en route to her 20th win of the season. In the first inning with two-outs, Saunders singled to left and Meagan Qualls walked. Morgan Qualls hit a two out double to centerfield driving in both runners. In the third inning, the Tigers exploded for four runs highlighted by a three-run Kim Patterson home run to left field. Morgan Qualls and Patterson combined for seven RBI’s in the eleven hit Tiger attack. Chattanooga State continues conference play Tuesday, April 22, at Cleveland State. On Friday, April 18, Tiger Softball (44-7, 12-0) beat Dyersburg Community
College 4-1. With rain throughout the game, Brittany Fox won her
22nd game of the season giving up five hits and striking out eight.
Game two saw the Tigers jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Pearce singled, stole second and scored when Meagan Qualls roped a double to right field. With two outs, Kim Patterson laced a two rbi double into left field scoring Saunders, who had reached on an error, and Qualls. Dyersburg sent their lead off hitter to the plate in the bottom of the first and the skies opened up. The game was then halted due to the rain. The Tigers will resume play on Saturday morning at 10:00 am CST. At the completion of game two, the Tigers travel to Southwest to take on the Saluki's in an afternoon conference double header.

Sophomore Night posted April 10, 2008 Chattanooga State (43-7, 11-0) made sure that 2008
In game one, Brittany Fox won her 21st game of the season, giving up one hit while striking out seven. Britni Pearce was 4-for-4 and Hannah Johnson went 2-for-3, hitting a homerun and driving in two. Kaiti Kelley rounded out the 12-hit Tiger attack with two hits. Pearce continued with her hot bat in game two, lashing three more hits while scoring three of the Tigers eight runs. Courtney Alvarez gave up one hit in her 18th win as Chattanooga State concluded the day with 14 stolen bases. Meagan Qualls went 3-for-4 with three RBI’s including a homerun to deep left field. In the final home game of the season, Kelley chipped in with another two hits to help the Tigers remain undefeated in conference play. Next on the schedule is a conference road trip to Dyersburg and Southwest on April 18 and 19.

First pitch is slated for 4:00 pm on the campus of Chattanooga State Technical Community College. The 2008 Sophomore Class brings a record of 93 Wins against only 21 Losses into Thursdays showdown.

Tiger softball swept Hiwassee College 11-0 and 7-0 in a conference
doubleheader, moving their overall record to 41-7 and conference mark to
9-0. Chattanooga State Sweeps Vol State posted April 6, 2008 Tiger softball (39-7, 7-0) traveled to Gallatin, TN, and swept the Lady Pioneers of Volunteer State 4-2 and 4-0. In Game 1, Brittany Fox won her 19th game of the season giving up 5 hits and striking out 5 while allowing 2 earned runs. Beth Keylon-Randolph’s Tigers came back from a 4th inning 2 run deficit to tie the game at 2 all in the 6th. Second baseman Casey Saunders doubled and was driven home by left fielder Kaiti Kelley for the first run. Third baseman Kim Patterson reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on an error by the Vol State second baseman. The Tigers took the lead in the 9th inning when Kelley singled to left field, promptly stealing second base and ultimately scoring when center fielder Meagan Masingale ripped a triple over the right fielder’s head. One out later, Masingale scored the fourth run of the game on a Saunders double to centerfield. Among the nine Tiger hits, Saunders and Kelley combined for a total of six hits with Masingale chipping in with two. Courtney Alvarez limited the Pioneers to one hit in her 16th win of the season while being supported by 13 Chattanooga State hits. The Tigers plated three runs in the 3rd inning on a Saunders triple scoring right fielder Britni Pearce for the first run in Game 2. Kim Patterson singled home Saunders and second baseman Meagan Qualls, who had stolen second base after being hit by a pitch. The Tigers iced the game in the 6th inning when Saunders’ scored the fourth and final run of the game after consecutive singles from Meagan and Morgan Qualls. Masingale, Pearce, Saunders and Patterson each had two hits in the Tigers’ 13 hit attack. Next on the agenda for Tiger Softball is a matchup with conference foe Hiwassee at home Tuesday, April 8, at 4pm. All games are played on Amnicola Highway, admission is free. Lady Tigers Shutout Jackson and Columbia State posted April 2, 2008 While dodging weekend rain showers, Chattanooga State softball ran their overall record to 37-7 and conference record to 5-0 by beating Jackson State Lady Generals 3-0 on Saturday, and sweeping Columbia State 1-0 and 2-0 on Sunday. Saturday night Brittany Fox won her 17th game of the season as Meagan Qualls collected two hits and drove in a run along with Casey Saunders. Meagan Masingale was 1-for-2 and scored a run in the shutout win over Jackson. Fox came back on Sunday winning her 18th game in the 1-0 win vs. Columbia State. In the 5th inning, Meagan Qualls reached first on an error and was sacrificed to second by Morgan Qualls. Kim Patterson stepped in and doubled down the left field line, plating the only run of the game. In the double-header nightcap with two outs, Krista Goodlet singled on a 0-2 pitch driving in Morgan Qualls who had been hit by a pitch and stole second. In the 6th, Meagan Qualls hit a solo home run to dead center giving pitching sensation Courtney Alvarez her 15th win of the season. Britni Pearce had two hits while Fox pitched the 7th for her second save in the 2-0 shutout vs. the Lady Chargers. In the first game Brittany Fox won her 16th game of the season, pitching the complete game shutout while giving up three hits. Meagan Qualls led off the 7th with a double down the right field line and was promptly sacrifice to 3rd by Morgan Qualls. With two outs Kim Patterson put the ball in play to right field plating Qualls giving the Tigers the win. The second game saw Courtney Alvarez pitch Beth Keylon-Randolph's Tigers to their 34th win of the season. Alvarez struck out 8 while giving up four hits in winning her 14th game. Meagan Qualls had two hits while Morgan Qualls chipped in with three hits and drove in two. Hannah Johnson had one RBI and catcher Krista Goodlet knocked in two. In the first National Ranking by the NJCAA, the ladies of Chattanooga State (34-7, 2-0) come in at number 4. Chattanooga State continues conference play vs. Columbia State on Friday March 28 with a 2 p.m. double header start. Games are played on the campus of Chattanooga State. Admission is free.
Chattanooga State Softball Goes 16-2 On Spring Break Road Trip posted March 12, 2008 On February 29, Chattanooga State softball left Tennessee with a 16-5 record. The Lady Tigers returned on March 9 with a 32-7 mark. After going 10-0 in Savannah Georgia, Tiger softball took Panama City by storm and left the prestigious NFCA tournament as one of three teams winning a bracket championship. Saturday night, Beth Keylon-Randolph's Tigers slugged their way past Georgia Perimeter 10-1, paced by a Casey Saunders grand slam setting up a Sunday showdown with Chipola, last years national champions. In a good old fashion fast pitch game, for 5 1/3 innings Courtney Alvarez pitched her heart out and Jessica Duncan saved the day pitching out of a 6th inning one out bases loaded jam to give Saunders the chance to be a last at bat hero by driving in the only run of the game. Meagan Masingale started the game winning rally and scored the winning run on Saunders hard hit ball down the 3rd base line defeating Chipola 1-0. Two hours later, the Tigers left Florida with another win, beating Blinn Community College out of Texas, 3-1. The strong pitching of Brittany Fox and the timely hitting of Hannah Johnson assured the Tigers of their 16th win in 8 days as they readied themselves for conference play. Johnson was 3-for-3 including a first pitch homerun leading off the 2nd inning. Prior to the tournament, Keylon-Randolph continued her usual "play the top teams in the country schedule" trademark by taking on Gulf Coast and Indian River. First, Alvarez no-hit Gulf Coast, pitching a 2-0 shutout. Indian River then gave up a run in the seventh and fell to Fox and the Tigers 4-3. After a two day rest, Tiger softball returns to practice on Wednesday to fine tune for Thursday's home game vs. Cleveland State. The non conference doubleheader starts at 4 p.m. Games are played on the campus of Chattanooga State. Admission is free. Coach Randolph Named Assistant Athletic directorCoach Beth Keylon-Randolph has taken on additional duties at Chattanooga State after being named Assistant Athletic Director in July. Along with coaching she will be directly responsible for chairing the Faculty/Athletic advisory committee. This SACS driven committee provides advice to the Athletic department in all areas of organization. Coach Randolph will also be developing a new program called TIGER CHAMPS, which focuses the student athlete on real life situations and expose them to education and solutions not readily covered in the academic setting. She will also be in charge of monitoring the Academic Work Scholarship program in the Athletic department. Coach Randolph has also been charged with developing a coach’s certification program to be offered through Chattanooga State.
.500 At the World Games
Team USA finished 3-3 at the World Games in what was an experience of a lifetime. After finishing 2nd in pool play the team was not able to bring home a medal. The games are scheduled again in 2 years with the NJCAA expected to once again send a team to represent the USA.
Chattanooga State Hosts TEAM USA Training for World GamesUnder the direction of Head Coach Beth Keylon-Randolph, Chattanooga State staged a 4-day training camp for TEAM USA softball as they prepared for the World Games in Bangkok, Thailand in August.
Along with her coaching duties, Coach
Randolph organized and directed lodging, meals, transportation and social
activities for the 15 players chosen to represent the Untied States. Six exhibition games were scheduled in three nights following intense practice for the team. TEAM USA played Chattanooga State recruits as numerous fans turned out to watch the games. Kids swarmed the field each night for pictures and autographs with TEAM USA players. On the last scheduled day TEAM USA put on a clinic for all the little athletes in attendance. The NJCAA also helped host the event as Mary Ellen Leicht played a major role in helping coordinate the plane flights for each player. Coach Randolph solicited help from the Chattanooga community for lodging and food for the team. The training was successful and allowed the team to come together before the games in Bangkok.
Let the competition begin…After winning 52 games, another region tournament and being one of only three returning teams to the nationals what has Coach Randolph done to get ready for the 2007-2008 season? The PitchersCourtney Alvarez: All the way from California, Alvarez is known as a strike machine. Bringing a full assortment of pitches, Courtney has stamina to go along with her “never give up” attitude. Jessica Duncan: Local standout pitcher form Ooltewah, Duncan is a coaching dream able to spot her rise, curve and change on a dime. Chere Monday: The hard throwing right hander out of Seymour high school k’d over 1000 batters in her high school career… brings a tenacious bulldog mentality to the circle…has all the pitches. Megann Sallinger: This athletic 6 footer from Georgia brings her repertoire of pitches and power to Tiger softball. Megann, a prolific hitter, when asked as to why she choose Chattanooga State said it was because of Coach Randolph.

She hit close to .500 this past year…knows the game…a leader in workouts and team conditioning. Beth Keylon-Randolph Named Co-Head Coach for TEAM USA SoftballIn June of 2007 the NJCAA named Beth Keylon-Randolph as co-head coach for TEAM USA Softball to represent the United States at the World Games in Bangkok Thailand in August, 2007. Three Tiger softball players will accompany Coach Randolph to Thailand and participate in the games; Meagan Masingale, Brittany Kopcsak and Vickie McCoy. Coach Randolph along with the TEAM USA coaching staff will assemble a 15-player roster for the games that are second only on prestige to the Olympic Games.
Head Coach Beth Keylon-Randolph to be Honored for 300th WinIn November of 2007 the NFCA will honor Head Coach Beth Keylon-Randolph for coaching her teams to their 300th win. At the end of the 2007 season, Coach Randolph had amassed a total of 313 wins in just 6 short years. Not only a top quality softball coach, she also inspires in the class room as the NFCA recognizes the 2007 Lady Tiger softball team for having a 3.39 GPA placing them 6th in the NFCA national rankings.
Tigers Earn NJCAA HonorsMeagan Masingale, freshman speedster earned NJCAA All-American honors. In her first years a Tiger she batted a team leading .440 with 41 stolen bases. Brittany Kopcsak and Christina Haskew earned Distinguished Academic All-American honors. Haskew had a GPA over 3.75 while Kopcsak had a perfect 4.00. As a team the Tigers placed 7th in the country academically (NJCAA) with a 3.39 GPA.
Tigers Seeded 3rd at National TournamentEnding the regular season ranked 4th in the nation and with a 52-12 record the Tigers earned the #3 seed at the national tournament. During the course of the season Chattanooga State occupied #2 national ranking for three weeks and #3 for two weeks. The Tigers, unable to capitalize on all the national ranking lost to Louisburg College 4-2 and then succumbed to Northeastern Oklahoma in a hard fought 2-1 lose. With a final record of 52-14 Chattanooga State looks to next year to continue their quest for a national championship. Coach Randolph Honored as Coach of the YearHead coach Beth Keylon-Randolph was presented an award for being coach of the year in the Eastern Conference. For 6 straight years she has led tiger Softball to the National tournament. This is the 3rd year she has received this honor. Meagan Masingale and Vicki McCoy were honored as members of the All-TJCCAA team, while Brittany Fox, Brittany Hendon, Dana Kirtley and Brittan Kopcsak were voted onto the All-Eastern team.
Tigers Sweep Through Region TournamentAfter a remarkable 48-12 season the Tiger softball entered the Region & tournament with high hopes of defending their 2006 championship and defend they did wining 4 straight games behind the artful pitching of Brittany Fox. Chattanooga State beat Dyersburg 10-0, Columbia State 7-1, Motlow State 7-0 and in the championship game beat Motlow again 5-1. Brittany Fox, Meagan Masingale and Vicki McCoy played their way onto the All-tournament team while Brittany Kopcsak to MVP honors. |
